What this site is
CalExit.org exists to explain the California independence movement clearly and evenhandedly: what it is, the case its proponents and opponents each make, and what the polling on California independence actually shows. It is a reference, not a campaign.
Who publishes it
The site is published by Charles McGuinness. I built it, I pay for it, and no one reviews it but me — with a good deal of help from AI, which probably shows. No organization funds it, reviews it before publication, or has any say in what it says.
I should disclose that I am an active member of the California National Party, one of the organizations described here, and I help run their websites. That is not a secret and it is not the point of this site. Independence is a serious question that Californians deserve to decide on the merits, and most of what is written about it is written to recruit rather than to inform. What I want is for people to understand the arguments for and against, and the polling record as it actually stands, and then reach their own conclusion about whether the idea is worth supporting — including possibly coming to the conclusion that it isn’t.
So the arguments against get the same care as the arguments for, the polling is reported whichever way it moves, and the legal case against secession is presented as its strongest version rather than a straw man. If any page here falls short of that, it’s a defect — please tell me.
Privacy
This site sets no cookies of its own, serves no ads, and embeds no third-party trackers or social widgets.
For traffic statistics it uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is privacy-first: it relies on a lightweight script but no cookies or other client-side storage, does not fingerprint you by IP address or browser, and does not track individuals across sites or over time. It reports aggregate figures — page views, visits, referrers — not profiles of visitors.
The site is hosted on Cloudflare’s network. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes each request — including your IP address — to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks, and may set strictly necessary security cookies in the process. That data is handled under Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
